independence from their French owners. L'Ouverture joined the rebellion as a top military official to abolish slavery without complete independence. However, through a series of letters written by Toussaint, it became clear that he grew open to equal human rights for all that live in Haiti. Similar to how the United States Constitution was ratified, the enlightenment ideas of equality and representation of the people created an impact of change against the status quo that sparked the revolution. The letter details the great concerns he felt due to a conservative shift in France's legislature after the revolution in 1797. The greatest fear was that these conservative values could give ideas to the French Government to bring back slavery. The enlightenment has proven to forever change the way a captive society thinks after L'Ouverture refuses to let the French send him and his people back into slavery. "hen finally the rule of law took the place of anarchy under which the unfortunate colony had too long suffered, what fatality can have led the greatest enemy of its prosperity and our happiness still to dare to threaten us with the return of slavery?" Ultimately, slavery was abolished from French colonies in 1794 and Haiti declared Independence from France in 1804.

At that point, he convinced Simon Bolívar to join the struggle and put him in charge of the fort at Puerto Cabello. This was all at once a supply and arms depot, a strategic port, and the central holding facility for Spanish prisoners. Through what amounts to a gross dereliction of duty, Simon Bolívar neglected to enforce the customary security dispositions before departing to a social event. During the night there was an uprising of the Spanish prisoners and they managed to subdue the Independentist garrison and gain control of the supplies, arms and ammunition, and the port. The Loyalist forces progressively regained control of the country and eventually, Monteverde's successes forced the newly formed congress of the republic to ask Miranda that he sign a capitulation at La Victoria in Aragua, on July 12, 1812, thus ending the first phase of the revolutionary war.

In 1815, after Lisbon was reclaimed from the French by the Portuguese, King Dom João VI declared that Rio and Lisbon would become equal centers of the empire. King João VI was forced back to Lisbon in 1821 by the Portuguese Cortes but left his son Dom Pedro behind to run Rio. A year later, Dom Pedro declared independence for Brazil and officially became emperor Pedro I. Although Brazil's independence was met with little resistance from Portugal, several small-scale battles were fought against Portuguese loyalist forces until 1824 to bring the rest of the Brazilian territories under the control of the new Brazilian government, and they were officially recognized by their former colonial overlords in 1825. 5266: 5214: 5162: 5110: 3417: 3326: 8538: 7420: 7408: 7396: 7307: 7193: 7140: 7089: 7037: 6980: 6968: 6919: 6907: 6851: 6839: 6776: 6764: 6715: 6703: 6658: 6605: 6553: 6501: 6446: 6392: 6341: 6285: 3074: 2206: 10363: 10023: 9852: 9831: 9736: 8378: 8194: 9389: 9307: 9213: 8548: 8261: 7774: 7636: 9417: 9400: 9367: 4902: 3168: 9422: 1018: 9378: 9296: 7744: 5318: 3521: 8204: 9606: 9596: 5482: 5370: 3560: 7818: 7808: 6025: 5940: 5855: 5786: 5717: 2565: 2528: 2491: 2454: 2407: 4954: 3207: 9198: 9175: 9153: 9114: 8247: 7619: 7602: 9098: 8854: 8645: 8463: 8368: 8124: 8714: 9457: 7878: 10625: 10300: 10169: 10086: 5058: 3287: 10237: 9318: 9285: 7706: 9323: 9008: 8988: 8880: 3968: 3955: 5006: 3365: 3246: 9611: 9429: 8671: 5253: 3482: 4850: 3116: 10475: 9224: 7761: 1103: 9572: 7117: 5422: 8919: 8914: 8909: 8559: 8529: 5633: 2889: 2146: 8564: 13249: 141: 8024: 4087: 8034: 8029: 7949: 10582: 9940: 6188: 6057: 5988: 5903: 5818: 5749: 8782: 8741: 8724: 7996: 7901: 7889: 9083: 8978: 8839: 8630: 8484: 8448: 8109: 9767: 8873: 8866: 7168: 8479: 8474: 8150: 8140: 8135: 8666: 6633: 9109: 8661: 8656: 9275: 8699: 8519: 8322: 7861: 8391: 7180: 6211: 4708: 4662: 4610: 4230: 4136: 4006: 3867: 3821: 3729: 2927: 2621: 9247: 9028: 5469: 3586: 8041: 5409: 2973: 9909: 6581: 6422: 6317: 1361: 10562: 9757: 5568: 2825: 7277: 4167: 10541: 7666: 5357: 4889: 3547: 3155: 9537: 8772: 8214: 7066: 7922: 7647: 8924: 6224: 6044: 5976: 5891: 5805: 5736: 5620: 4726: 4634: 3659: 2945: 2876: 6474: 10432: 10415: 10406: 10396: 10280: 10149: 10066: 9810: 9800: 9715: 9072: 9061: 8968: 8828: 8817: 8619: 8608: 8430: 8412: 8337: 8312: 8183: 8091: 8073: 8018: 5959: 5874: 5495: 5435: 5383: 5331: 5279: 5227: 5175: 5123: 5071: 5019: 4967: 4915: 4863: 4809: 4312: 3430: 3129: 3020: 3008: 2997: 2986: 2095: 574: 6125: 3378: 2160: 805: 11555: 9618: 7359: 4783: 4478: 4426: 4376: 4243: 4100: 4019: 3885: 3839: 3793: 3747: 2077: 10529: 9186: 9164: 9142: 7986: 7939: 7912: 1582: 10465: 10220: 10211: 10202: 10665: 1133: 8347: 9342: 8491: 7723: 6749: 6012: 5201: 5045: 3456: 3274: 2551: 7372: 6529: 6434: 6329: 2712: 2666: 2355: 2307: 8162: 6687: 5704: 2393: 7711: 7284: 10320: 10310: 10106: 10096: 6273: 6541: 9121: 6953: 5842: 2477: 10637: 9779: 8678: 6810: 5773: 4504: 4326: 2440: 2341: 2188: 7787: 4993: 3233: 10615: 10519: 10375: 10290: 10159: 10076: 8888: 8291: 6892: 6369: 6261: 5927: 5149: 3404: 2514: 2234: 10498: 10128: 6107: 3352: 2293: 814: 9547: 7695: 10181: 9888: 9874: 8936: 8583: 7127: 7076: 5097: 4837: 4362: 3313: 3103: 2774: 2698: 10594: 8272: 6379: 5596: 2853: 10330: 10116: 1514: 1999: 24: 10259: 7833: 6823: 5305: 4941: 3508: 3194: 10342: 9601: 9040: 7024: 7014: 6645: 4413: 2652: 2588: 8789: 6200: 4680: 4564: 4462: 3775: 2127: 10247: 10035: 9582: 6487: 2260: 6593: 8226: 7294: 3641: 3048: 10444: 8751: 8357: 2741: 9562: 10002: 5550: 4491: 2807: 9983: 9973: 9960: 9950: 8704: 8327: 10717:. He later returned with a new army, while the war had entered a tremendously violent phase.
