He was a magistrate of Essex County, a Captain of the company of Haverhill, and the Representative of Haverhill in the General Court in 1733 and 1734. His health had been "always precarious". In his will, written six days before his death, his estate in Haverhill was given to Sarah and the rest was split among his sons and daughters.
