Soviet
Airforces were subject to massive purges in the Stalin era, many notable aviators who broke multiple world records or earned their nation’s highest honor were repressed , their accomplishments forgotten, and their discoveries swept under the rug. Because archival sources are nearly always in Russian and these topics are history, not news, coverage of even the deadliest, most notable, and revolutionary events of aviation only have articles on the Russian Wiki. Our goal is to change that, using the wikidata pages for those Russian articles as a “base” to start off from and expand our own wikis, providing coverage on some of the most forgotten topics that managed to hide in the Russosphere for many years. While we have made a lot of progress on the English Wiki there is still a long way to go and many other wikis still lack coverage on the extent of Soviet air disasters.
